3. The three-by-three rule of meditation.
The whole meditation thing can seem like a lot. On top of everything else you have to do to “live a healthy life” (Fit in that 5 a.m.workout! Don’t forget date night with your husband! Put down that strawberry – it is not organic!), now you’ve got to meditate too? Here’s the thing about meditation though. it doesn’t have to demand time, or classes, or require you to “clear your mind of all thought while listening to water springs and classical music.” The three-by-three rule is this: three minutes of meditation, three times a day. Just try doing nothing but focusing on the sound of the water as it hits your body in the shower, or watching the light reflect off the leaves of a tree as your kids play – for three minutes. You might catch yourself so overwhelmed by the moment that you would later describe it as an almost religious experience!
As for those mobile devices/handcuffs, I
still thank the tech-Gods for creating
them. After all, digital accessibility
and mobility has opened many
doors. It is the reason so many of
us can work from home after the
kids go down (yes, family
dinners are interrupted, but at
least we get to have them!)
And here’s the most important
bit of advice: learn to forgive
yourself for all of your failings.
They are universal. Let them pass.
Every moment is another chance
to do it again, and do it better.
