DC - You and your husband Jon are both into fitness. Since the birth of your two children, how do you manage to stay in shape while balancing family life?

JG - We share duties and take turns covering, knowing we DO NOT want to be around one another if we’re not getting in our workouts.

DC - A lot of people are intimidated when it comes to walking into a Barry’s like fitness environment. What kind of advice can you provide for helping them take that first step?

JG - We often utter the words, “Don’t be a hero,” as we encourage all first timers to just do their best. People often make the mistake of “getting in shape before they go to their first class,” but rest assured, Barry’s is a safe place where you can go at their own pace. Any given class is filled with elite fit athletes, as well as older participants with injuries, or out of shape people just beginning their fitness journey.

DC - Which new fitness trends do you think will become more popular in the next couple of years.

JG - Recovery and stretch has been gaining a lot of traction over the last year or so. People are finally starting to realize body maintenance serves its purpose in a world filled with challenging workouts and a lack of opportunity for recovery of the mind and body.

DC - What are your top 3 rules for maintaining a healthy fitness regimen?

JG - 1)You must embrace the 3 facets of exercise: strength training, cardiovascular, and stretch. Odds are you will favor the type of workout you need least.

2)Surround yourself with people that support your goals. Maintaining a healthy fitness regimen is difficult enough without people trying to knock you off course.

3)Nail your nutrition. It’s a lifestyle, and you must commit on all levels. To have a truly efficient machine, you must have clean fuel.

DC - Tell us about your other business ventures and what we can expect to see from you in the future.

JG - Last year, I founded a business called Au Fudge along with 4 other partners. It’s a family friendly restaurant concept in West Hollywood where the food is organic, all natural, and dye free, with a furnished creative space where kids can play under the supervision of Au Fudge Au Pairs. There are whimsical touches throughout: like an indoor treehouse, a bookshelf that has a secret door, and a marketplace filled with bespoke goods from around the world. Up next, we’re launching a concept called Au Fudge C.A.M.P (Center for Arts, Music, and Play) which will provide curriculum based programming for kids to attend on a membership or pay per class basis. This was an exciting opportunity to start a business that allowed me to focus on the magical world of children, a subject that has become near and dear to my heart since I now have 2 kids under 2. My businesses have always been about merging my personal and professional lives in a way that feels organic and fun.
