Sophia Forero will be visiting the Zuni reservation in New Mexico this August. You are invited to come along and celebrate silver, the Southwest, and turquoise.
The Zuni have been farming the southwestern United States for over 3000 years. In the mid 1400’s, this Pueblo nation inhabited dozens of cities that ranged from 80-1400 rooms each. They faced the Spaniards in the mid 1600’s, and remained self sufficient until the 19th century.
In the last 200 years, this incredible nation has created some of the greatest Native American jewelry artists our United States has ever known. Originally taught by Mexican silver traders, the Zuni took up the art of making jewels with a mysticism symbolized with their use of stones and iconic shapes to represent their clans and unique traditions.
We have created a collection as an homage to the great Zuni people- our turquoise mosaics, paired up with Zuni needlepoint bracelets and this striking authentic Squash Blossom necklace, as well as semi precious stones from the great Turquoise Trail just outside Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Adorn One World will interview Zuni artists, film them creating authentic indigenous jewels, and collaborate with these remarkable individuals to create the new. See some from our current journey at Adorn One World.
