IT’S PANTO TIME AGAIN
FESTIVE NEWS • DECEMBER 2018 • PAGE 45
Taking the family to see a pantomime is one of the great traditions of Christmas and the New Year –
and Hereford is blessed with the choice of three pantos.
For its 20th anniversary, The Courtyard has chosen the ever popular Peter Pan as its festive time
pantomime adapted from the classic story by J M Barrie much loved by all children.
Peter Pan entices the three Darling children to Neverland with the promise of magic and adventure.
Meanwhile, young Smee joins a pirate crew, only for his mum to follow him to Neverland to try and
keep him out of mischief.
Add to the mix a naughty Tinkerbell causing havoc, a hungry crocodile singing mermaids, flying,
magic, lots of song and dance and a super show is guaranteed . The audience will wonder if Peter defeats
the wicked Captain Hook; will the Darling children get home; will Mrs Smee stop her pirate son
turning into ‘a bad un;
This is a pantomime , not performed at The Courtyard before that takes its audience on a high-flying
journey filled with adventure, fairy dust and catchy musical numbers . The kids are going to love it
First night is Saturday December 1 running through to Saturday January 12.

HAPS PRESENTS JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
The longest running panto company is Hereford Amateur Pantomime Society which grew out of the former Wiggin
shows introduced by the special metals firm in the 60’s. This year HAPS is staging Jack and the Beanstalk, true
to the original fairy-tale with some great added characters and up to the minute jokes. As usual, there is lots of
audience participation and songs everyone will know. You are guaranteed an hilarious night at The Courtyard
when the show runs in half term February20 to 23.
MAGNA FOLLOWS DICK WHITTINGTON TO LONDON
Magna performing arts group will be staging their 40th annual pantomime, also in the half term February 23 to 25
at Whitecross Academy. It is Dick Whittington and his Amazing Cat, the story of a poor boy who goes to London
to seek his fortune with just his cat for company. He does not find any streets paved with gold, but Dick does fall
in love with the Lord Mayor’s daughter. He faces lots of baddies, makes his fortune overseas returns to London
and becomes a hero when he and his faithful cat rid the city of a plague of rats. Needless to say, as in all pantos he
and Alice live happily ever after.
