So when he died on June 10 his wife Lyn decided to give Ron, aged 74 a fitting send-off. She arranged for a steam traction engine and trailer to take his coffin from Holmer Church on June 29 to Hereford Crematorium. A large crowd of mourners gathered outside the church to see the unusual funeral procession set off. Said Lyn: “Ron loved steam engines and would have been delighted that one took him on his final journey.” Ron, who lived in Holmer was a former president of Hereford Lions Club and was a member of Ross-on-Wye Steam Traction Engine Society. Born in Staunton-on-Wye, he started work on a local farm, joined Williams Shopfitters, moved to Wiggin’s, worked on construction at RAF Credenhill, became a National Express coach driver and finally set up his own property maintenance business. He was a member of St Martin’s bowls club.
