Hereford families love their annual dose of pantomime . It ’ s a great tradition that still attracts big audiences to the three panto shows performed in the city over Christmas and the New Year . Last year ‘ Aladdin ’ at The Courtyard was seen by a record 22,000 .

young man reawakens her and in the true spirit of panto they live happily ever after . But as always , the show is littered with colourful characters , side-splitting comedy and show stopping musical and dancing routines .
Hereford Amateur Pantomime Society has been staging shows since 1963 when it started as the Wiggin factory panto originally put on to entertain the children of employees becoming HAPS in 1982 . The 2018 show , performed at The Courtyard during the February half term week is ‘ Beauty and the Beast ’ with an all amateur cast and lots of local children in the singing and dancing troupe .
The city ’ s third panto is staged by the local Magna Theatre company , another home-grown group dedicated to keeping alive the art of pantomime . Their offering , ‘ Rapunzel ’ is a bit more edgy than the normal panto . The young girl Rapunzel lives with her mum and three sisters and life is fine until a group of friends give a birthday present of magic hair which brings chaos She gets locked in the tower by the evil guy only to be rescued by the handsome prince . This sounds like a night out with the family not to be missed . It runs in February half term , February 22 to 24 at Whitecross Academy .
