Official Show Guide 2018 15 - Day 2 Schedule Day 2 – SaFest Emergency Planning 4 Events Training Conference 10.30 am - 11.15 am Not every festival or event runs as planned. Incidents occur that are beyond the control of the event organiser. To ensure the safety of all, we have the responsibility to protect and mitigate the impacts of an emergency. This presentation looks at the key elements of emergency management and the issues, training and competencies required to deal with them. Beverley Griffiths, Director of Resilience, Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College Event Law, Legislation and Brexit 12.00 pm - 12.45 pm A presentation dealing with the impact of Brexit on safety law and legislation for the festival and event industry in the UK and how event safety will be affected. Eddy Grant, Senior Lecturer, University of Derby Managing Complex Crowded Places 13.30 pm - 14.15 pm Complexity comes in many forms. In examining this from a crowded places perspective we tend to consider dynamics-related issues and traditionally-accepted geographically complex events, be they single site or multi-site. This session will investigate some of the additional layers that contribute to complexity, including command and control, integration and interoperability, management structures, historical inertia, cultural issues, audience profile and threat and risk perspectives. Balanced against this, it will explore the growing role for the crowd safety manager and the means by which crown management planning might identify and manage such complexity. Emma Parkinson, Senior Lecturer, Coventry University The Event Safety Landscape 15.00 pm - 15.45 pm A survey of the current issues effecting safety at events. What is the effect of no real pathway for training? Why are the same mistakes repeated time and again?  An overview of the major issues identified in the real world in the last two seasons and what is required to address these issues going forward. Eric Stuart, Founder, Gentian Events
