Fernie is situated along Highway 3 ( aka Crowsnest Highway ) in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in south eastern British Columbia . Fernie is a 3-hour drive west of Calgary Alberta and the Calgary International Airport , and is just 2 hours west of Waterton National Park and 4 hours south of Banff National Park . Visitors flying into Calgary International Airport or Vancouver International Airport can take daily connector flights to Cranbrook . Airport , located 1 hour from Fernie .
Fernie is 30 minutes north of the US border ( Roosville Crossing open 24 hours ), 1.5 hours from Whitefish and 2 hours from Glacier National Park , Kalispell , Montana , and Glacier International Airport . Visitors can also fly into Spokane , Washington , a 5 hour drive . from Fernie .

Highway 3 to Fernie from Alberta is the easiest drive through the Rocky Mountains into BC . Highway 3 offers a very scenic drive that makes Fernie a perfect touring hot spot for drives through southern BC , AB and the NWUSA . Self-drive holidays are highly recommended . Car and RV rental companies are located at or nearby every airport . Winter ski season shuttles are available from Calgary Airport with charters available from other airports . The FernieStoke Ski Shuttle provides transportation between the town of Fernie and Fernie Alpine Resort ( 5km ) during the winter ski season .
