FEMS Affiliates Letter September 2017

Also in this issue PUBLICATIONS / GRANTS CORNER / OPPORTUNITIES / DEADLINES Affiliates Letter  The official newsletter for FEMS Affiliates Welcome to Peer Review Week 2017! This month from 11-17 September 2017, the global scholarly community will be coming together to celebrate the important role of peer review during Peer Review Week 2017. Peer review is the most important quality check that exists in science. It is a community effort to expertly evaluate new research and ensure that it is valid, credible and of the highest possible standard. It brings together the scientific community to improve the body of knowledge for the benefit of researchers, policy makers, business, education and the public. Peer Review Week Started in 2015 by Sense About Science, PRE (Peer Review Evaluation), ORCID, ScienceOpen and Wiley-Blackwell, Peer Review Week has gained momentum with the efforts of the academic community to get the contributions of peer reviewers meaningfully recognized. Peer Review Week has grown since then, and we are delighted to collaborate with close to 30 leading science publishers and science communicators in this global initiative to share the great value of peer review. Alongside Peer Review Week, we also have our own ongoing peer review campaign. This close collaborative network allows us to share the powerful message that good peer review, in any shape or form, is critical to scholarly communications.
