started gaining weight at a rapid rate during my middle school years and it was not due to heavy meal portions , sweets , junk food nor lack of exercise . I was a physically active youth yet my hormones were spiralling out of control with strange cycle patterns , painful boils , more hair on my arms , legs , fingers , and toes than ought to be allowed . We were uncertain as
to why this was happening to my body and when asked , the doctors assured my mother that I was simply going through some pubescent growth spurts . In other words , everything was fine and my body was going through some normal hormonal changes . Ten years , a losing battle to excess weight gain and two grapefruit sized cysts removal surgeries would pass before I was informed that I had a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome more commonly known as PCOS . I ’ d never heard of the condition and when I inquired , the doctor told me that it was a common endocrine disorder ( which didn ’ t make things any clearer ), that affects one in ten women .
