KINGDOM COME C hrist shining bright in the Millennial Generation’s Governmental Structure: Interview with Mayoral Candi- date: Randall Woodfin By Shadaria Allison S crolling down the endless walls of social media and internet news; we can be sure to find in the headlines several gloom and doom opinions about the “millen- nial generation”. We have been la- belled as a group of “wild adults” that care nothing more about life than to squander it on drugs, scamming, and rebellion. In contrast, I am will- ing to bet that this generation has all but improved var- ious ways of living globally. Whether it’s in technology, busi- ness, beauty, and government; God is doing something page 52 with this body of people called “mil- lennials”. The evidence of God’s hand on the millennial culture became evident to me; more recent through my local municipality. I was given the opportunity to interview Randall Woodfin, A 36-year- old Christian attorney, “millen- nial” and mayoral candidate for one of America’s most historical cities; Birmingham, Al. Millennial Mayor- al Candidate Ran- dall Woodfin It was a Wednesday lunch hour in Bir- mingham, Alabama; exactly one day after the most patriotic holi- day America celebrates on “red, white and blue” soil. Amongst nostrils filled of waffles, chicken, and flavoured juice from Birmingham’s, “Yo Mamma’s Kitchen” Restaurant; a casually dressed, soft-spoken gentleman asks, “so what are you having”? “It’s on me”. In an orderly, yet rare fashion he politely pays for the ticket behind him. Clearly, the entire restaurant recognizes the hand- some politician. I don’t know what type of “charisma” to call what the 36- year old mayoral candidate; Randall Woodfin has, but I know that what- ever it is; It is enough to change the city he so desperately loves; Birmingham AL. A young man defined by circumstance, educated by life, and refined by passion could be instinctively what the city of Bir- mingham needs; if it is looking for a very vast and deliberate reform. Cynics will have to embrace his age. Fans of the “old way’ of doing things will have to embrace his plan. Birmingham will have to embrace change. In an hour long dia- logue with the intelli- gent attorney turned Mayoral candidate, I found a man with a plan to turn Birming- ham’s “woes” into a reason to smile for years to come.
