Intisar Abioto
Intisar Abioto graduated from Putney in 2004 . She ’ s now a professional photographer and artist for different organizations and companies . She ’ s also the creator of blog The Black Portlanders .
What ’ s your job or what are you working on currently ? Right now , I do a number of things . I am a professional photographer and artist . I do photography for a lot of organizations , sometimes companies . I also work on my own photography projects , and speeches for colleges and companies . I still dance , but not so much as photography .
What are some of your photography projects ? A lot of my projects in the past five years are portrait-based works . I have been doing many portraits of African Americans in Portland , Oregon for about five years . Also , doing portrait for black people in other places . That ’ s been my primary personal artwork . Before that , I did a lot of story-based work , exploring folktales .
I saw your blog The Black Portlanders ? How did you start this project ? I came to Portland at 2010 and I wasn ’ t from here . And photography was one way for me to get familiar with this place . One day I was walking on the street and I saw someone who was interesting , so I asked her if I could take a picture . Since then , I kept approaching people and asking about their experiences in Portland . I enjoy using art to explore a subject .
