Lil Dashers 2K/2M Kids Run (March 3rd): For the budding trail runner in your family, Desert Dash offers this introductory trail run for kids 12 and under. The easy-to-follow course will have an aid station and lots of encouraging volunteers along the route. Adventurous adult trail run- ners can participate in the Blood, Sweat and Beers 5K, 10K, 30K, Half Marathon and Marathon races on the same day. This race is held about 1.5 hours from Las Vegas in Littlefield, AZ. Spartan.com Trail Trashed 1-Mile Kids Fun Run (March 24th): Triple Dare Running Company hosts this 1-mile kids run on the beautiful dirt trails of Sloan Canyon. After the race, families can explore the fascinating geological formations and ancient rock art in Petroglyph Canyon. Adult races include 50-mile, 26.2-mile, 13.1-mile, 1K and 5K distances on both tech- nical and groomed trails. On November 8th, the city was presented with the 2017 Excellence in Youth Sports Award from the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) and Athletic Business magazine. The award is presented annually to just five organizations that conduct youth sports pro‐ grams. It’s a pretty big achievement, considering the bar is set at a national level. “This prestigious award is a tremendous honor for the City of Henderson,” said Rob Herr, director for the City of Henderson Public Works, Parks and Recreation Department. “Our department’s Sports Section has demonstrated a measurable commitment to our youth‐ centered philosophy, which offers every child the opportunity to enjoy a positive and safe sporting experience with emphasis on the importance of training coaches and parents.” The philosophy is the cornerstone of the city’s youth sports program, which aims to posi‐ tively impact the lives of hundreds of Henderson youth and their families every year.
