February 2018 Ward 1 Report - Page 3

Dale Hodges Park

Dale Hodges Park is a large natural environment park that lies along the northern bank of the Bow River, adjacent to Bowmont Park, on the lands of the former Klippert gravel pit. Located at 2123 52 St. N.W., the park features:

• Stormwater wetlands

• Wildlife habitat

• Walking and cycling trails

• Lookout points

• Integrated public art

Please note that the above features are currently under development.

The Dale Hodges Park is a new City park space that will also provide water treatment for stormwater going into the Bow River.

Most of the site development was completed in 2017. Fine grading and seeding of the laydown areas will be completed, weather permitting, in the spring of 2018. The water infrastructure will be commissioned during the winter

of 2018. The landscaped areas will be a factor in opening the site to the public.

The site currently has newly planted trees and shrubs with a large amount of newly seeded areas. The seed had not germinated prior to the arrival of winter so germination will happen in the spring.

Opening the site too early to the public will carry the risk of extensive damage to the seeded areas and the need to re-seed. There will likely be landscape repairs and reseeding required.

In the spring, The City will be able to determine the success of germination of the seeded areas and provide an update on a potential opening date.
