The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main challenges presented in the form of the water features on several holes, as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the Golf Estate and comes into play at various intervals. Naturally such a beautiful and challenging course should have played host to high-level competition at some stage, and De Zalze has done just that - it was selected to host the 2006 World Amateur Team Championships (Eisenhower & Espirito Santo Trophies), where the South African Ladies won for the very first time in fine style. De Zalze Golf Course has consistently moved up the rankings in the Golf Digest Top 100 Courses in South Africa, and currently sits at 23rd in the latest rankings. It is also generally regarded to be amongst the best conditioned courses in South Africa. Highlighted Holes 11 385 Par 4 373 Stroke 2 The 11th An avenue of trees and vines make this hole seemingly narrow when in fact there is plenty of space in the landing area. The second shot is played into decidedly the most difficult green on the course. 13 299 268 Par 4 Stroke 16 The 13th Without doubt this is the feature hole on the course. A boardwalk leads to a selection of tees in the heart of a dam. The hole doglegs left around the dam and, depending on the tee shot, crossing the dam will result in a very short second. 17 544 Par 5 514 Stroke 4 The 17th Perhaps one of the toughest yet memorable par 5’s you will ever play. A tree lined fairway with a mountain backdrop creates a painting, with the focal point being a central bunker complex. The fairway straightens to a river crossing that has to be carried to an elevated green. Champ Club 27 | www.firstdistribution.co.za
