FOOD CONCEPT SOUL ROLLS

We caught up with unconviential chef Wendy Puckett a 43 year old mother of six and shes embarking on a new concept to encourage eating veggies.

FO: What impact has you and your brand made on your community ?

WP: In my community I’ve been told that I’ve made them believe because I’m just like them. They would see me every day and in the same place. I was always in the community doing something and a lot of people would ask me, ‘So what did you do?’ I literally decided to do what I wanted to do, I didn’t have a huge income and I just put it together and started asking for help. I think that’s what motivated people and I know just for my family, my daughter alone, it’s really motivated her to follow her dreams. I think I’ve made that impact.

FO: What message do you want to send to others through your work?

WP: Don’t waste time and it’s never too late. Follow your dreams and it sounds corny, but it’s really really true. Had I had known that cooking was going to bring me this much joy, which it always did, I would have stuck to it when I was a kid. I went with what society thought I should do like get out of the role in the kitchen, but that is really what brought me happiness. I now know that I could still have a role in the kitchen, be a powerful woman, be in the workforce, and still be at home raising my kids. It’s a struggle and a juggle, but I definitely enjoy it and I wouldn’t change it.

FO: Who Is Wendy Puckett ?

WP: I am a 43 year old mother of six, I’m starting out something new, I’ve been doing the same thing with hospitality and children for the last 20-25 years of my life and I got injured. I needed to find another vice to make income and seeing that I’m older now, I knew that I wanted to do something that was going to make me happy and not regret getting up every single morning. One of those things was always cooking. It brought me back to my roots where I grew up with my grandmother in the kitchen and usually there are happy days, bad days, and literally every day food covered it all. It brought me back to the kitchen so I started making these rolls called ‘soul roll.’
