Metal roofs have become
increasingly popular over the
last few years over the conventional roofing style: shingles.
There are many reasons
why people prefer metal over
shingles. But, as with everything, there are pros and cons.
Here are the pros:
Life expectancy: If installed
properly, the metal roof outperforms shingles in many
aspects including sealing out
water, surviving high winds,
and shedding snow. Not to
mention, metal roofs also fire,
mildew, and insect resistance.
They don’t rot, and include a
20- to 50-year warranty.
They are also efficient. Metal reflects radiant heat from
the sun, and that minimizes

One big con of having a metal is the cost. Depending
on the type, 100 square feet can cost between $150-$600.
But that difference can easily be made up over time because of the durability of the roof.
Another con is loud noise. We see all types of weather
living in Minnesota. Rain, sleet, and hail are all part of
the equation. Rain and sleet is loud, while hail can dent
the roof.

When it comes down to it, metal roofs last longer and
are better able to handle the crazy Minnesota weather
patterns. However, there is only one thing that really
matters — personal preference. n
