Carver Co . dairy expo Feb . 20

By Starrla Cray A quarter of a century ago , the first Carver County
Dairy Expo was just getting underway . Now , the event has become an annual tradition that farmers and others involved in the agriculture industry look forward to each winter .
The 2017 expo and trade show is set for Monday ,
Feb . 20 from 9 a . m . to 3 p . m . at Central High School in Norwood Young America .
Morning sessions
The first informational sessions start at 10:30 a . m ., and includes :
• “ Small Giants : Strategies for Small Farm Survival ,” led by Dr . Jeffrey Bewley , extension dairy systems specialist from the University of Kentucky ;
• “ 25 Years and Counting : Building on the Past for a Bright Future ,” led by Jim Dickrell , editor of Dairy Herd Management ; and
• “ Communication : The Key to Labor Management ,” led by Betty Berning , extension educator for agriculture business management at the University of Minnesota .
Mid-day agenda
At 11:30 a . m ., a special presentation about the expo ’ s 25th anniversary will take place in the auditorium .
Shortly after ( at 11:45 a . m .), Phil Plourd , dairy economist of Blimling and Associates , will speak about “ Feeding America , Feeding the World .”
Lunch will be served at 12:45 p . m ., and attendees are welcome to browse the dairy trade show , which takes place throughout the day . About 50 vendors will be featured .
Afternoon sessions
The last round of sessions begins at 2:15 p . m ., and includes :
• “ The Effect of Hay Rake Type on Ash Content in Hay ,” led by Abby Neu , University of Minnesota extension educator ;
• “ Using Precision Technology to Improve your Farm ,” led by Dr . Jeffrey Bewley , extension dairy systems specialist from
