Superintendent's Welcome Message
Dear Fanwood Family,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Fanwood Life magazine. As the new Superintendent, I
am thrilled for this opportunity to work at such a fine institution. Fanwood has a strong history of
producing excellent leaders who went on to transform the landscape in the areas of leadership,
publishing, science, engineering, arts, and more. With over 200 years of educating Deaf and Hard
of Hearing children, New York School for the Deaf is the oldest in New York State and the
second oldest Deaf Education program in the United States. It is vital that we continue to
preserve our rich history and, at the same time, usher in a new era of preparing our students for
the dynamic and global workforce.
With this mantra in mind, it is important that Fanwood continues to provide a Deaf Centric
learning environment that revolves around learning and language. At the same time, we need to
provide comprehensive and rigorous educational programs and services. We have an excellent
team of administrators, teachers, and staff members who embrace the child-first philosophy.
Throughout the school year, we will be concentrating our efforts on enriching the Academic,
Career and Technical Education, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and
Mathematics) program to ensure that our students receive the quality education they deserve.
Students should have the opportunity to lead and be empowered to make choices when it comes
to college, career, or life. We will also be focusing our branding and collaborative efforts to
ensure that Fanwood captures the essence that makes us unique.
Together, we can work to inspire our students each and every day.
