New York School for the Deaf Est. 1817 "Planning for the Future" 2018 Teacher and Staff Member Of The Year New York School for the Deaf is proud to announce Guidance Counselor, Kandace Morris, as the 2018 Staff Member of the Year. Kandace just wrapped up her 7th school year at Fanwood.  She plays many roles here, even though she bears just one job title. At any given moment throughout the day, Kandace is an advocate, a therapist, a counselor, a teacher, a supporter, and a coach…just to name a few. Kandace is known to work after hours and on weekends, always ensuring that her job is complete. She works very hard as a member of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) team and is an integral part of its implementation.   Kandace Morris Guidance Counselor 2018 Staff Member of the Year She is well respected by the students and her colleagues, and is a true role model, always reflecting professionalism and dedication.  Her dependable work ethic and personality make her the perfect recipient of the NYSD Staff Member of the Year award. Congratulations, Kandace!  Michael Kennedy was named New York School for the Deaf’s 2018 Teacher of the Year. Mike has been a dedicated History teacher at Fanwood for eight years and has become a leader within the teaching staff. Michael Kennedy History Teacher 2018 Teacher of the Year Mike is consistently open to helping and supporting other teachers, and sincerely cares for all of the students.  Along with professionalism, he uses his sense of humor to navigate through a teacher’s sometimes-difficult tasks. With his dependable personality, Mike often takes initiative to carry our team to new and higher heights.  He has extremely high expectations for the students and is dedicated to helping them achieve their goals. Over the years, Mike has also been a Track & Field coach, giving a great deal of time and energy to the students, outside of work hours. Mike’s determination to work hard and support our growth as a School community is sincerely appreciated.  Congratulations, Mike!    13
