Boomer Irvin Senior • Athlete The 2018 season could be a domi- nant season for Kemp linebacker Boomer Irvin. The 6 foot 3 inch, 215-pound line- backer looks to add to his junior sea- son, when he was named as the Athens Daily Review All-Henderson County Area First Team linebacker. He had 186 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions and three blocked punts. He is predicted to be the Preseason Defensive Most Valuable Player by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. With two Division I offers under his belt in the Air Force Academy and Army, he may get even more looks in 2018. With a new head coach in Lee Wilkins, Irvin could be called on to take on an even bigger role as the middle linebacker for the Yellowjackets. Irvin told a reporter with the Recruiting News Guru what his main fo- cus is heading into the upcoming sea- son. “Speed, speed, and speed. I am good at tackling and coverage. Working to get to the next level of my game with my speed. That will make everything better. That helps me fill gaps, shed blocks, and with my coverage.” Wilkins will find the best way to have Irvin take care of the defensive unit as the leader. His soft spoken nature will have teams confused as to how hard he plays on the field throughout the season. If he can take care of that area, fans can expect to see his name back in the superlative categories in the postsea- son Fanfare Season in Review maga- zine, which comes out in December. 18
