Andreas Garrett Junior• Athlete Junior athlete Andreas Garrett looks to keep the streak of Malakoff MVP's intact this year for coach Jamie Driskell. The 2017 Athens Daily Review Sophomore of the Year looks to become the sixth play- er in the past eight years to bring home the top award. The past two seasons, Judd Miller won the award for Malakoff. This year, Garrett hopes to take over a receiving core where he had 32 receptions for 442 yards and five touchdowns last year. That was an average of 13.8 yards per reception. Driskell said Garrett will be counted on for more than just his physical ability on both sides of the ball. “He will be huge as far as leadership goes,” Driskell said. “He is a quiet leader, and the guys seem to look up to him. We had to bring him up as a freshman so he is a junior this year. He is definitely a veteran and has the it factor. He is not the fastest or strongest guy, but he is the best competitor that we have ever had.” Garrett could become a tar- get for sophomore quarterback Darion Peace, who is penciled in as the quarterback heading into the season. 15
