WINTER TRACK AND FIELD

By: Natalie Travisano

Winter Track and Field, the first of two highly anticipated track seasons, is finally upon us. This year’s 2018-19 roster is composed of an impressive 60 athletes, only ten of whom are seniors. However, the lack of veteran athletes has not been a hindrance to the team’s success. The girl’s 4x400 meter relay team just recently captured the NJIC Championship title. The team consists of junior Natalie Travisano and sophomores Anna Memija, Stephanie Forster, and Nicole Kalinowski. On the distance end, the girls 4x800 relay team consists of juniors Sam Soler and Natalie Travisano and sophomores Devin Davila and Nicole Kalinowski who are coming off a highly successful spring season. They are ranked amongst the top 4x800 teams in their group. The girl’s team has been relying heavily on a talented foundation of underclassmen in recent years, and they have not disappointed. This year, the boys are also navigating through their first season without many of last year’s star seniors. Although it has been difficult to maintain its competitive edge, the young team is building back up and working hard every day at practice. Senior Christian Mendez placed second in the 400m dash at the NJIC Championship meet and senior newcomer, Steven Rocca has also been a great addition to the distance team. While Winter Track is a short and competitive season, much of the team's focus is been geared toward preparing for the Spring Track season in March.
