Thomas Joseph White, O.P. (STL ’08, faculty), gave the Aquinas Lecture at St. Mary’s Dominican Church in Tallaght, County Dublin, Ireland. At Providence College, the St. Thomas Aquinas lecture by Fr. Nicholas Lombardo, O.P. (MDiv ’03, STL ’05), was postponed to March 16, 2015 due to adverse weather. (STB ’73, STL ’75), delivered the homily at the St. Thomas Aquinas Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, televised on EWTN. In November, Arina Grossu (MA ’08) of the Family Research Council and Genevieve Cervantes Plaster (MA ’13) of the Charlotte Lozier Institute joined other presenters, including Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), to share their findings on research examining healthcare.gov and state-based insurance exchanges for information on abortion coverage and the transparency of that information. On January 16, 2015, Fr. Thomas Petri, O.P. (STL ’06), the PFIC’s Vice President and Academic Dean, delivered the opening prayer for the U.S. House of Representatives’ Pro Forma Session. Fr. James Quigley, O.P. (STB ’64, STL ’66), has been appointed to the new Board of Trustees of the Angelicum. The role of the Board, which includes Dominican friars and laity, is to develop the institution along the lines of mission, finance, and fundraising. On January 8, 2015, Fr. Dominic Legge, O.P. (MDiv, STB ’07, STL ’08), appeared on EWTN News Nightly to comment on the terrorist attacks in Paris. Fr. Legge reminded viewers that Pope Benedict XVI spoke often about violence in the name of God as the greatest form of blasphemy. On September 14, 2014, Fr. Stanley Kelechi Ihuoma, S.S.J. (MDiv ’10, MA ’11), was installed as pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Church in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Archbishop José Gomez recently entrusted the parish to the care of the Society of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, approving Fr. Ihuoma as its first Josephite pastor. Holy Name is only the second Josephite community west of the Mississippi River. In the fall of 2014, Dr. William Diem (STL ’08) joined the faculty of the University of St. Thomas, Houston, as a visiting professor of theology. He currently teaches “Christ and the Moral Life” and “Teachings of the Catholic Church.” The Catholic University of America Press recently published Theology and Sanctity, the latest book by Fr. Romanus Cessario, O.P. (STB ’70, STL ’72, STM ’13). 11
