DOMINICAN PREACHING ILLUMINATES POPE FRANCIS’ MESSAGE IN THE U.S. Br. Josemaría Guzmán-Domínguez, O.P. We would like to thank Bridgett Wagner and Diana Banister for their generous help in bringing Dominican preaching to thousands of men and women in need of the Gospel. During Pope Francis’ recent apostolic journey to the United States, a novel opportunity for the preaching of the Gospel arose. At the suggestion and with the help of two benefactors, Bridgett Wagner and Diana Banister, some of our Dominican faculty appeared as commentators on television news programs. Fr. Thomas Petri, O.P., Vice President and Academic Dean of the PFIC, and theology professors Fr. Dominic Legge, O.P., and Fr. Dominic M. Langevin, O.P., went on the air to present a straightforward, Catholic interpretation of what the Holy Father was doing and saying in this visit. Reflecting about his experience of this preaching mission, Fr. Legge mentioned what a great opportunity this presented. Typically, a preacher has a relatively small audience for his preaching of the Gospel, but on this occasion the friars could reach many thousands of viewers, Catholic and non-Catholic, who followed Pope Francis during his U.S. visit. Fr. Legge noted that the media is a “huge megaphone that can be of service to the proclamation of the Gospel.” He Faith & Reason - Volume II, Issue III 171144_Faith & Reason.indd 4 11/3/15 12:14 PM
