AN UNSELFISH
sacrifice
Tolu Akin was determined to see her
brother’s life restored to order, and paid the
utmost price for his freedom from addiction.
“I took the opportunity to make
the most of the Campaign
when it came around, by
sacrificing the income I earned
from my business. I determined
that my brother’s life would
change for the better.
It wasn’t difficult to take part
in the Campaign because
from the very beginning I knew
that I needed to do this and,
more importantly, it was what
I wanted to do. I understood
God’s promises – I wanted
things to change and I couldn’t
see any other way.
When it actually came to
placing my sacrifice on the
altar, doubts did cross my mind
and it was hard. I didn’t know
how I would be able to afford
day-to-day things after I had
sacrificed my income, and this
meant I had to place my total
trust in God.
I was also attending the
Addiction Cleansing Therapy
(ACT) meetings for several
months on behalf of my brother,
determining that, through my
faith, he would be set free from
his addiction to marijuana.
Coming to the meetings was
a sacrifice in itself, as I live in
Essex and would get home
late. However, the situation in
my household was terrible and
I believed that I would see a
change through my faith.
At first, it seemed as though
the addiction was getting
worse; despite this, I persisted.
I would use the salt given at
the meetings in my cooking
and I also placed it in my
brother’s bedroom.
After a few months of
persevering
and
being
determined, God honoured
my faith. My brother is now
free from his addiction. He
also decided to officially join
the UCKG and was baptised!
Although he did not attend
the meetings physically, God
still answered my prayers.
I would definitely encourage
others to take part in the
Campaign, because there are
some things that will only change
through faith and sacrifice.
It felt incredible to know that
God honoured me and had
literally changed what had
once seemed impossible. It’s
even greater to have your
siblings with you in the presence
of God.”

“He will offer everything he can in order to help those who are
lost because he loves them as Jesus does. This includes prayers,
fasting, evangelistic work, financial sacrifices, etc.”
