STANDING ON MY OWN TWO FEET

As part of our human nature , at some point in life , we will seek support from others , whether at work , school , or anywhere else . We feel at ease when we can rely on others , but it is important to note that the more we depend on others or things , the more they become our crutch . This means that when they are gone , we find it hard to stand on our own two feet . Delores Appiah shares her story with us :

“ I attending the church . Without

once had a close relationship with someone who was also
realising it , I was too dependent on him , and he became my priority . When we eventually went our separate ways , I felt as though I had lost everything !
Instead of getting to know God , I was holding onto someone else and was living by their faith and not my own . As a result , I found it very difficult to deal with my emotions . I would even cry myself to sleep to the extent that I started to feel suicidal .”
Of course , doubt entered my mind a few times , but I knew I was getting closer to what I was seeking . The devil will always try to block you , but the key for me was to believe in God ’ s promises .
It took a while for things to change but , after following the guidance given to me at the church , I received the Holy Spirit and felt a great assurance inside me , which was that God was ready to guide me from now on . He became my best friend . With God as my new source of support , my suicidal thoughts disappeared !
Without the familiar support in Delores ’ life , how would she cope with the suicidal thoughts and negative emotions ?
“ When the 21-day fast of Daniel came , I saw it as an opportunity to seek the Holy Spirit , get rid of these negative thoughts , and develop spiritually . I didn ’ t need to be perfect ; I just needed to become a new version of myself .
The first steps to overcome my negative thoughts and develop spiritually were to open up to someone when doubts came and then follow the guidance given . Remember to trust Him and never give up .”
