sacrifice
THE PERFECT
The practice of sacrifice is universal. It is found in one form, throughout the ages and is considered
the highest expression of faith. Actually, the manifestation of faith is necessary when offering
a sacrifice. In other words, we could say that faith is the main ingredient of the true sacrifice.
Sacrifice without faith is incomplete.
Sacrifice includes the act of voluntarily
giving something up in exchange for
something else of much greater value. It
is the shortest distance between a wish
and its materialisation.
Many who claim to be Christians or
religious avoid this subject, but the fact
is that giving and receiving have always
been present in the relationship between
man and God. It is the fulfilment of the
prophetic word from God to Adam:
“By the sweat of your brow you will
eat your food until you return to the
ground…” (Genesis 3:19) . This means
any and every achievement comes
through sacrifice.
Everything comes at a price. If the
objective I want to achieve is high, then
the price of the sacrifice I will have to
pay will also be high. The greater the
conquest, the greater the sacrifice to
conquer it.
The cost of victory is proportional to
its size. That is why great victories are
conquered by courageous, firm and
determined people of God. The Holy
Spirit never chooses cowards to achieve
great things for the glory of His Son! On
the contrary, just as He chose special
people in the past, He still does today.
These handpicked people are those
who are ready to sacrifice everything
for His cause. “Whoever watches the
wind will not plant; whoever looks at the
clouds will not reap.” (Ecclesiastes 11:4) .
The price of our salvation was the
sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. What we must
pay to maintain our salvation is what the
Lord Jesus spoke about when He said:
“And anyone who does not take his
cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and
whoever loses his life for My sake will
find it.” (Matthew 10:38,39) .
To take the cross and follow the Lord
Jesus, as well as lose one’s life for His
sake, is to pay the price of sacrifice.
No one can sacrifice something without
having the total and absolute assurance
of what one hopes to conquer. Hence
the reason for the sacrifice, which
has two main aspects – spiritual and
physical.
The spiritual aspect concerns faith,
because “Now faith is being sure of
what we hope for and certain of what
we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)
We can affirm therefore that faith is
the soul of sacrifice. Faith is the original
source of sacrifice. It is faith that
stimulates it; without faith there cannot
be a perfect sacrifice.
