Were they mostly academic students or were other people in the population included ? They were mainly university students , although I did find a very likable elderly atheist from New York , named Richard , and of course , there was Professor Lawrence Krauss .
It seemed that many people first receive Jesus between about 12 and 15 years . What ages were your subjects ? What is the significance of that age ? All those I interviewed were 18 or over . The reason for this is that it ’ s illegal in California to interview anyone who is under 18 years , without parental consent .
You present a wonderful picture of the amazing complexity of DNA , the instruction book for our personal growth , or for that matter the growth of anything that has life . Briefly , how much like a monkey is our DNA ? What differentiates species as distinct from natural selection which causes variation within a species ? Believers in evolution maintain that monkeys and humans have similar DNA . But we are also told that we have similar DNA to bananas . So they say that we are cousins with bananas .
Actually , we are closer to pigs than primates , when it comes to our skin . Pigs also have two eyes , two ears , a mouth , a brain , blood , bones , a stomach , a liver , two kidneys , and two sets of lungs just like human beings . I know people who sound like pigs when they are asleep , and eat like pigs when they are awake . Despite all these similarities , we didn ’ t evolve from pigs . We just have a common Maker who used commonalities in many living things .
What a picture that was of Richard Dawkins trying to define the nothing that can create everything ! Even on the Tony Jones Show , Q & A , ( normally very anti-Christian ) they laughed at him . That really bowled me over ! Logic is also a creation of our Lord . The belief that nothing created everything is more than ridiculous . It shows that human beings will grasp at anything rather than face moral responsibility when it comes to God .
The chicken and the egg question was a beauty . What did come first ? The rooster ? An atheist baulks at the thought of male and female being created together , because it sounds nervously like the book of Genesis .
The way you use scripture with natural examples like the fire alarm is unanswerable with logic . How do these scriptures affect you personally ? All scripture is very powerful , but there are a number that give us keys to reach the lost . That thrills me because these are a powerful arsenal in battle . I have read my Bible every day without fail since the day of my conversion on April 24th , 1972 . It ’ s a wonderful habit that every Christian should cultivate : no Bible , no breakfast .
I love that ‘ No Bible , No breakfast ’ comment Ray . The knowledge of scripture is that important . Science originated in a search for repeatable ( proveable ) truth and that arose from the scriptural concept of truth . Why is a strong knowledge of the Bible so important today , when science is also a search for truth ? The Bible says of itself that it ’ s a lamp to our feet and a light to our path . In other words , God directs our paths through His Word . We speak to Him through prayer and He speaks to us through the Bible .
If the Bible says something and science says something else , we trust God ’ s Word . For example , when science says that we are primates , we know better . We know that we are of more value than animals , because we ’ re made in the image of God .
As Christians we need to be intimately familiar with the Scriptures , especially in these days of moral relativism . In this way , we will always know what is right and wrong , and what is truth and what is error .
You speak of humanity being tormented by death . Can you take that a bit further for us ? The Bible tells us in Hebrews 2:14-15 that all of humanity is held captive to the fear of death , until we come to faith in Jesus . He sets the captives free from the power of and the fear of death . Faith is the antidote to fear . However , the inbuilt fear ( conversely , the will to live ) is a powerful tool that we can appeal to , to get people to soften their hearts to the claims of the gospel .
