the importance of becoming a prayer warrior for your marriage . As Christians , prayer is one of the most powerful resources we have at our disposal , and yet it is often the last thing we turn to .
James 5:16 promises , “ The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working .”
So what is “ the prayer of a righteous person ”? First off , for anyone to be declared righteous before God they must have their sins forgiven through shed blood of Jesus Christ . Then we must realize that it is possible to live unrighteously as a Believer .
In order for your prayers — and mine , to be effective , we must be willing to search our hearts and ask God to show us our sin so that we might seek God ’ s forgiveness ( see Psalm 139:23 ; 1 John 1:9 ).
Practically this plays out even in our thought-life . If we hold resentment or unforgiveness in our hearts toward our husbands for not measuring up to our expectations , that resentment will take hold and grow a root of bitterness . Hebrews 12:15 warns that root of bitterness will defile many .
Along with bitter thoughts undermining your marriage , it will spill over as sour grapes all over your children and influence the way you parent them , because your sin will quench the Spirit ’ s leading in your life .
But here ’ s the point I don ’ t want you to miss . When you hold onto unconfessed , habitual sin your prayers are rendered ineffective .
That means when you pray for God to change your husband , protect your kids , or draw your children to Christ , your sins make your prayers powerless .
Wow — I don ’ t know about you but no sin is worth cherishing in exchange for the power God grants through the prayer of His righteous saints !
