many with the question: “Why?”
On 5th of January 2002 on a Saturday at 7:45am, Glynis Rozendo and her husband received a visit from two police officers from a nearby police department,
to give them the news no parents should ever have to hear. Their son had
been killed by a drunk driver while walking on the side of the road. He was
on his way to a job opportunity to help people with disabilities. Daniel
had a troubled childhood but he had decided a few years before that
he wanted to serve God. But while studying to become a Chaplain
in the Police Department, he was beaten up by 14 men and left
with severe, lasting injuries which made it difficult for him to gain
employment.
In her words, “One cannot explain the disbelief, anguish, absolute shock and horror that one feels in that moment. You can feel
your blood running cold. You force yourself to remain standing.
You just want to curl up and have the ground open before you.
You want to believe you were having the worst nightmare, but
the nightmare is a reality, you are fully awake.”
Her questions are the same: “...if our God is a God of love, why
would He take this child when there had been so many trials and
tribulations and hoops for him to jump over to become a good
young adult man?”
