ness in the world .
The Fellowship for the Performing Arts , a New York-based Christian drama group , provides another example of Christians shining their lights . According to their website , their mission is to “ produce theater from a Christian worldview for a diverse audience .” A recent production , “ The Most Reluctant Convert ,” tells the story of the conversion of C . S . Lewis . This production company ushers in divine light on the literal stage and draws audiences to hear the story of redemption . These actors , writers and producers could have utilized their talents in any production company of their choosing . They choose to let the flag of their faith fly unfurled .
Yes , Christians have the power to let their lights shine or “ put it
under a bushel ” so no one can see it . Sometimes we hide our light because we want to blend in with the crowd . Perhaps we are afraid that bearing light is not profitable , because , “ people loved darkness rather than light ” ( John 3:19 NIV ). Sometimes it appears easier to hide our light . We don ’ t want the persecution that accompanies the revelation of who we are . But Jesus says , we should put our lives with Him on a stand because “ it gives light to everyone in the house ” ( Matthew 5:15 NIV ). Very often people in darkness are searching for the light that we can provide . We may think we are protecting ourselves by withholding the light , but in reality , we are leaving someone else in darkness ; delaying someone else ’ s deliverance . By observing our behavior , listening to our conversation , witnessing the life that we lead , many will seek the source of our hope , our dedication and our thankfulness . They will want to know a little more about the God that we serve .
Sometimes our light even helps other bearers of the light and if we band together , we can emit a brighter brilliance .
We can allow our lights to shine by using our gifts in any sphere of the world where God has sent us to share what we understand about the redemptive life . We can share the power of the gospel through dance , song , writing , art , work , “ and whatever you do , whether in word or deed , do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus ” ( Colossians 3:17 NIV ). Like the moon in the night sky , we will reflect the light of God ’ s son and draw others to him .
