Find God's beauty in
a wilting leaf
The ending of summer and beginning of fall have had me
thinking about leaves. As I wandered my yard looking for inspiration I was distracted by my
flower gardens--especially the
weeds and wilting plants I
found. But as I looked closer at
the work I should be doing, the
shapes of the dandelion, mint,
and bleeding heart leaves
caught my eye. And I knew I
didn't want leaves from the
trees, but these new shapes.
I love lettering, and had already
planned to put leaves on one
side and a Bible verse on the
other. I searched a concordance
online for passages that reference leaves. I was so happy to
discover Revelation 22:2! I start
a new Bible study of Revelation
this fall and I wanted a new and
special bookmark to help me
find this book easily anyway! I
also loved the connection that
people have used dandelion and
mint leaves for centuries in dif-

ferent medicinal ways. I love
when God puts things together
like this!
I used a heavyweight watercolor, hot press paper. So it had
some body, would hold up to
paint on both sides, and be a
sturdy bookmark. I used a punch
to round the corners and
punched a hole at the top for
ribbons so that I could design
around the hole.
I started by making life easy: I
traced the dandelion and bleeding heart leaf on one side and
the mint at the top of the other
side.
Next I painted in the background
around the leaves. I love water-
