Alice Briggs - Great Joy Throughout my time working on this piece, I could feel the joy of the Lord bubbling up. Not just in me, but through me as well. I felt that as we all choose to be obedient to this Scripture’s admonition to be always filled with joy, all of that joy comes together and becomes an unstoppable force. As the Scriptures also say that the joy of the Lord is our strength, I believe that the more joyful we are, the stronger we become. I completed this piece digitally with multiple layers and textures just as I do when I paint with actual paints. I feel that the layering process builds depth and richness to the piece. Although all of the layers may not be visible, they leave their mark and add meaning to the piece. Born in Michigan, raised in Carlsbad, NM in a family who loved to dabble in all kinds of crafts, She was encouraged from an early age to try new things. After degrees in biology, chemistry and occupational therapy, her artistic side demanded a larger voice. After returning to Carlsbad, she began taking art classes offered at the local branch college of New Mexico State: drawing, pastel, watercolor, and oil. It was a few years later, when taking a weekend class taught by Helen Gwinn she discovered the wonders of acrylics and collage. “I was blessed to be able to study with both Helen and Lynette Watkins three times at La Romita, and once further North in Italy where I added many new techniques to my repertoire and was greatly influenced by the instructors and fellow classmates as well as the cultural heritage and natural beauty of Italy. As I worked in the studio, I noticed that it was while I was in the midst of the creative process that I felt the pleasure of my Creator the most”. Faith Crafter Mars 2016 www.faithcrafter.com 19
