Pilling Pilling is the term used to indicate whether a fabric “piles”. The test for pilling is carried out using the Martindale apparatus. The fabric is rubbed against the same standard fabric that is used in the abrasion test. However, there is no weight applied. Afterwards, the appearance of the item is compared with standard photos, designated 1 (worst) to 5 (best).
