Yarns Most fabric will require yarn of some sort. Continuous lengths of fibre (natural or synthetic) are interlocked together by spinning to form thread. Several threads are then twisted together to form yarn. Both staple (short) and filament (long) fibres are used in thread and yarn production. In some cases, thread or yarn can be monofilament, in which case a single fibre will form the thread or yarn. The only natural fibre that is counted as monofilament is silk.
