Fireworks By Kathryn Beaney Fireworks are used to celebrate many different festivals around the world, such as Bonfire Night and Diwali. Why not choose a festival and explore it further with the children. Fireworks for creative dance and movement The movement of fireworks can be used to inspire some creative dance. Show the children some pictures and videos of fireworks and discuss how they move: • they spin, whirl, scatter, zoom, burst, dart, flitter, gush, spiral and float • some of them shoot up high and straight before exploding, then crackle as they fall to the ground • others spin round and round Provide the children with cloth, ribbons or strips of crepe paper, put on some music like the ‘Royal Fireworks’ and allow them time and space to explore creative dance.
