How not to lose WOW moments By: Eri Akbar It can be challenging keeping track of all those WOW moments that you record every time children reach a milestone or display an achievement. Here are some strategies that will make it easier for you to get organised and stay on top of work: Carry a sticky notepad and pen in a lanyard This allows you to quickly jot down observations anywhere in the nursery. Even if the notes have to be transferred to the computer eventually, writing them down means you are less likely to miss a WOW moment. Neither will it take too much time away from you being with the children. Remember to write down the child’s name and date on every note It may seem obvious but this is something that is easily omitted. Make sure you always write in a certain sequence – name and date followed by observation. This ensures that your notes are clear, making it easier to compile progress reports later on. Post notes in individual learning journals at the end of the nursery day Older children may be able to do it themselves. It also encourages them to read and feel good about their achievements. If your nursery has opted for hard copy journals, this means half your work is done, as long as the notes have been written in good handwriting and language style, which does take practice.
