Let’s Try Dance By: Karen Burns Last time we looked at using a well-known and familiar nursery rhyme to help children to begin to explore dance. This time let’s look at simple dance drama – telling a story through movement. Explain to the children what dance drama is: telling a story without talking or making any sounds, using their bodies and faces and the way they move to tell the story. Miss Polly had a Dolly is a good ‘story’ to start with as the children are familiar with the song. They may also already know the actions and you are going to help the children expand on these actions. Explore with the children how they would feel if their baby was sick, what would their faces look like? What would the baby be doing-crying?
