FYSH F-2036
Maverick RE1098
“National Sunglasses Day serves
as a reminder that sunglasses are a
major health necessity – regardless
of whether it’s sunny or cloudy, warm
or cold – and spread the word that
sunglasses and other UV-protective
eyewear are key to protecting long-
term eye health,” says The Vision
Council.
Children are most at risk of serious
retinal damage from the sun since
kids tend to be outside more often
than adults and their ocular lenses
cannot filter UV light as effectively.
The Vision Council says sunglasses
that block UVA and UVB light are
the most effective tool for preventing
immediate and long-term UV
eye damage.
To encourage people to always reach
for their sunglasses when going
outdoors, vision experts recommend
finding shades that are comfortable
for long-term wear and to own sev-
eral options that can be paired with
different looks.
For 2019, many eyewear companies
have launched new sunglass models
that are not only stylish, but also
comfortable and functional.

Lourdes Sun
New to the collection are Crystals
by Swarovski styles. They include
Model F-2036, a modified cat eye with
crystals by Swarovski laminated in be-
tween layers of clear acetate along the
outside front edge in a range of com-
plementary colors, and Style F-2040,
which features a custom lamination
to achieve a two-tone colouration in
unique combinations.
The Lourdes Sun and Valders Sun are
two of the new styles released this year
by Ogi Eyewear’s Seraphin brand.
The lightweight Lourdes Sun takes
a new spin on an original Windsor
look and boasts a pressing of metal to
acetate that brings high contrast to
the nylon lenses.
The Valders Sun boasts a flat profile
adorned with full details. Expertly
crafted faux clips hold a thinly laid
double bar in place, while a semi-rim-
less design accents this nylon lens
masterpiece.
ACTIVE EYEWEAR
Revo x Bear Grylls is a new perfor-
mance sunglass collection, distrib-
uted in Canada by Centennial Optical.
Each style caters to an active lifestyle.
They are made of an innovative flex-
ible plastic material that is almost
unbreakable and feature signature
Revo lenses, which offers the best
visual experience available for those
who live an active, outdoor lifestyle.
“The lens technology on Revo is sec-
ond to none, so that was a big pull. It’s
mirror coating is a NASA-based tech-
nology and it’s a huge step forward in
the eyewear space,” Grylls says.
