EYE FOCUS | COVER STORY FYSH F-2036 Maverick RE1098 “National Sunglasses Day serves as a reminder that sunglasses are a major health necessity – regardless of whether it’s sunny or cloudy, warm or cold – and spread the word that sunglasses and other UV-protective eyewear are key to protecting long- term eye health,” says The Vision Council. Children are most at risk of serious retinal damage from the sun since kids tend to be outside more often than adults and their ocular lenses cannot filter UV light as effectively. To encourage people to always reach for their sunglasses when going outdoors, vision experts recommend finding shades that are comfortable for long-term wear and to own sev- eral options that can be paired with different looks. For 2019, many eyewear companies have launched new sunglass models that are not only stylish, but also comfortable and functional.
