“After a long day of filming, I’d go hang out
at restaurants in London or Sydney and talk
to the chefs,” said Prinze. “I liked what they
ate, I liked what they cooked, I liked what
they drank, and so I made them teach me
what they knew!”
At the time, compiling a cookbook was not
as appealing as his other interests which
included martial arts, video games, pro
wrestling, comic books and starring in
teen box office hits such as Summer Catch,
Cruel Intentions and I Still Know What You
Did Last Summer with his best friend and
future wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Famous
for her lead role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
Gellar began dating Prinze in 2000 and
was quickly spoiled by date nights that
eschewed restaurants in favor of Freddie’s
peppery fajitas, enchiladas or Green Chile
Stew. The couple wed in Mexico in 2002
and he has claimed more than once that the

secret to their 14 years of marriage is due to
his prowess in the kitchen. Listen up, men!
Freddie’s advice can be a game-changer!
ROLE REVERSALS
Prinze and Gellar have worked together
many times during their careers and
played each other’s love interests in the
2002 film Scooby-Doo and its sequel
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
Priorities changed when they had their
two children, Charlotte (born in 2009)
and Rocky (born in 2012). Prinze had no
qualms about being a stay-at-home Dad
so that he could prepare breakfast and
dinner for his kids every day, and cooking
for Sarah came with its own set of rewards.
“When people want to know how we’ve
stayed together all these years, I tell them
I cook and I clean!” he said. “Everyone
says the way to a man’s heart is through
the stomach, but it’s truer for a woman.
Because if you’ve taken care of the
cooking and cleaning, at the end of the
night when you want some loving, she’s
not going to complain she’s too tired!
If you want to watch fights or play video
games or whatever, she’s going to be
fine with it.”
