The hospital experience was difficult because I had to undergo
a C-section, but I heard from a girlfriend of mine that it isn’t nearly
as bad as getting hit by a trolley car on the cold streets of San
Francisco. Murph looked exactly like his daddy when he was born,
but now that he’s a few months old, I can see that he is changing
and looks more like me. He does have Ryan’s hips, though.
Ryan really only wanted to pass on his hips anyway, maintaining
that they are his most attractive and enduring physical attribute.
Thankfully, my mom was able to come to Houston and help out
the first two weeks. She made me some hot, soulful food, such
as a simple millet recipe that is reported to help build blood cells,
and a bone marrow broth that took her three days to make!
I have a new level of appreciation for my mom now that I am one.
