MADEFEATURES MADEXXXX L I V I N G T H E D R E A M Sterling Beaumon MADE BY AJ LINTON S terling Beaumon isn’t a newbie to the screen. Starring on shows like ABC’s Lost and NBC’s Law & Order: SVU and CBS’ Criminal Minds, it’s no surprise that he’s landed his newest role as Glenn Stevens on NBC’s Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. Beaumon spoke with MADE about the business of Hollywood, preparation and tips for success. Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders premieres September 26th on NBC. MADE: Sterling for those unfamiliar with you and your journey, share with us who you are and your journey as an actor? I am an actor born and raised in Southern California. Everyday I am trying to make that dream come true. It’s important to know that I’m an artist who will stop at nothing to create what it is that I want to create. I started off in the modeling realm, I did a bunch of Baby Gap ads as a kid that turned into commercials and from there television shows. It’s really funny actually, I started off doing two or three lines on shows and now to be interviewing about a show I’m being featured on is an amazing feeling. MADE: Let’s talk about Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders premiering on NBC. You’re playing Glenn Stevens. Tell our audience what we can expect for this season? There’s really an exciting thing happening within Law & Order in that they are moving away from procedural television, meaning it’s not a new crime every episode. This season follows one crime that actually happened (a true crime) the Menendez Murders in Beverly Hills in 1989. Eric and Lyle Menendez were two brothers who were sexually abused growing up and one day they felt so threatened that they felt that their only course of action was to kill their parents. This series follows them from the day that they killed their parents to the end of the court trial. So that’s the overall story and it’s told through the eyes of their defense attorney, Leslie Abramson. My character Glenn is one of their longtime friends from Princeton who grew up with them. I’m the friend with the bad influence who tells them how to spend and misuse their money. MADE: Filming a true story like this, what did you learn as an actor that you feel prepared you for this role? Having worked with Law & Order before on an episode of SVU I think what really prepared me for this role was learning how they told their stories. They have a specific storytelling team. You follow not only the detectives figuring out what happened, but you follow the entire trial, prosecution and end result. I feel what prepared me for this PHOTO CREDIT Ryan K.
