P enderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky was first launched , quite appropriately , on St David ’ s Day , 1st March 2004 in the presence of HRH Prince Charles .
How the idea came about is as warming to the cockles as taking a sip from one of their expertly crafted whiskies .
Like the beginnings of some of the greatest ideas , it all started from a chat amongst friends in a pub . It was the late 1990s and their dream was to create a whisky as pure and precious as Welsh gold .
The distillery would be located in the village of Penderyn , carefully selected because of the site ’ s own supply of natural spring water .
With a unique copper single-pot still designed exclusively for them by Dr David Faraday ( yes a relative of the eminent Victorian scientist ), expert distillers and the finest bourbon casks from America , the dedicated team set about achieving their vision .
Success followed and Penderyn have since been bestowed with more than 50 awards ( we think 50 , we lost count twice ). This level of acclaim , in such a comparatively short amount of time is remarkable . Penderyn are a magnet for trophies , and rightly so .
Their attention to detail and unbridled passion for absolute perfection is clearly evident and shines bright , it quite literally shines , as every bottle is even hand polished as they come off the line .
