Royal BC Museum THE ROYAL BC MUSEUM IS A BLEND OF MUSEUM AND ARTIFACT COLLECTION, WHILE HOUSING DOCUMENTS AND RELICS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA’S HUMAN AND NATURAL HISTORY. The Royal BC Museum Corporation is one of the premiere keepers of Canadian treasures. Today’s museum is a combination of the original museum founded in 1886, and the archives that were established in 1894. This blend creates the region’s utmost museum and archive, artifact collection, while housing documents and relics of British Columbia’s human and natural history. The museum simultaneously protects this collection while sharing them with patrons. Visitors can easily learn about British Columbia’s social and natural history through the museum’s collection, research and presentations. Robert Bateman Centre THE ROBERT BATEMAN CENTRE IS LOCATED ON VICTORIA’S INNER HARBOUR. In the Steamship Terminal on Victoria’s Inner Harbour stands the Robert Bateman Centre. The Centre houses the main collection of Robert Bateman, esteemed Canadian painter, sculptor and sketch artist. It also hosts many programs and events for the public to enjoy. Robert Bateman was raised in Toronto, Ontario but focused his art on the natural world. This gallery allows a visitor to see the key concepts of his life, such as his travels around the world, his early abstract style, and his statements about our world’s state of being. His paintings, lithographs, etchings, drawings, and sculptures contained in the museum offer a view of the natural and manmade world.
