Mother Nature ’ s gift to outdoor enthusiasts , killer whales and humpbacks are commonly seen throughout British Columbia . One of the most underrated whale watching regions in North America , Vancouver Island is ripe with viewing opportunity . Here ’ s a collection of whale photographs from a collection of talented photographers courtesy of Destination , B . C . Whale watching tours are available throughout the spring and summer months throughout the San Juan Islands in Washington state , as well as the unheralded Vancouver Island . Both humpbacks and Orcas are migratory , with a handful of resident populations . Humpbacks feed primarily on small fish like herring , sand lances , anchovies and needlefish .
