AS THE NAME SUGGESTS, 10 ACRES takes
localized sourcing of ingredients to a
whole new level by operating their own
organic farm from which they produce the
majority of their own produce, fruit, herbs
and free range, antibiotic free livestock.
They don’t just prepare your food, they
plant it, they raise it, even waste from the
restaurant is returned to the farm and
composted. The used oil? It fuels the farm
vehicles.
A modern designed interior boasts plenty of space and seating options to suite
singles to larger groups, and an outdoor
patio area is refreshing on nice days.
The menu provides plenty of diversity
without feeling overwhelming, and has
plenty of lighter options for casual a lunch,
a favorite being the Nicoise Salad (local
albacore tuna, pasture raised farm eggs,
fingerling potatoes, citrus marinated olives
with roasted garlic lemon dressing). When
it comes to dinner, cross your fingers that
the rotisserie chicken with pan drip potatoes and house-made slaw is still available.
They come out of the oven at 6:00, and
when they’re gone, they’re gone!
Reservations are allowed on groups up to six
to 6:45, after which it is first come-first serve.
THE NORTH 48 ISN’T ONE of those places
where you dress like you are going to a job
interview, or pick from the menu the item
which has the most words you think you
can recognize. Its style is relaxed, its atmosphere is quirky and fun, and its food will
knock your socks off. Self described as providing artfully prepared comfort food prepared using contemporary techniques, you
can find such items as sous vide meatloaf,
chicken and waffles, or French onion soup
pressure cooked in a jar and brought to your
table still sealed. North 48 pulls from tastes
all around the globe to produce its own
special style that has earned recognition as
one of Canada’s best new restaurants.
Every effort is made to select local or regionally produced sustainable ingredients,
and everything on the menu is prepared
from scratch, in-house, right down to the
sauce for the duck wings on Thursday’s
‘buck-a-duck’ wings special.
Need to take a stroll down memory lane?
Hit North 48’s tiki bar for a few episodes of
Gilligan’s Island on the TV while sipping on
a Monkey Brunch or any other cocktail you
can dream up.
A great place for the whole family and
reservations are not required.
