Hidden Treasures // Malaysian Borneo I was at a travel expo a few years back, and I was talking to a man at a stall, he said something which has stayed with me to this point, “once you realise the world out there isn’t a scary place, you open the door to a world of opportunities”. His comment was really thought provoking for me, and it got me thinking, how many amazing opportunities do we miss out on simply because we are scared of the unknown? My mum is definitely not the kind of person to miss out on life because she’s afraid, and it makes travelling with her pretty unforgettable. We took a family vacation to Malaysian Borneo last year, and needless to say it was interesting. We spent a week in a city known as Kuching, and my whole family (except my mum) were not expecting it to be too different from the other places we’d stayed during the trip. But we could not have been more wrong, we arrived at the airport and took a taxi to what appeared to be a small suburban street (as suburban as you can get in Malaysia) and at this point even mum was confused.
