For the past ?fteen years Troy Buchanan Show Choir has made its mark; not only in Troy, Missouri, but all over the U.S. The two groups, Soundwave and Express, have won several awards from many di?erent competitions. Traveling from New York to Los Angeles and from Hastings, Michigan to Orlando, these ensembles have had the opportunity to break out of Troy and venture to places most high school students do not get the opportunity to go.

Throughout the 2013 competitive year, the groups traveled to Mt. Zion, Sullivan, Chicago, all in Illinois, and as far away as Orlando. With precise direction from Andrew Drinkall, Jesse Diaz, Kerrie Sims and Cara Jennings, Soundwave placed Grand Champion at three of the four competitions and Express made ?nals at two of the four competitions and won many caption awards. With four hour practice weeks and weekend choreography sessions this was only expected. “[The show choir practices] took dedica-
tion and hard work, but it was fun and enjoyable. It taught me how to branch out to others and expand my friend group,” said Lucy Lovelace. With four competitions a year, stage out?ts, and a back drop, the extracurricular activity depends on a su?cient budget. Each member pays $800 for their out?ts, coach buses, hotel stays and entrance fees. “Considering all the opportunities and experiences we have, the $800 fee is a reasonable
amount of money,” said Tori Gilbert. The organization also has a wonderful fundraising group. Encore Choral Boosters puts on several fundraisers throughout the year raising money to further meet the ?nancial de?cit the member fee does not cover. “With the great support from the community it gives us reason to perform and they always give us the home town pride,” said Daniel Pastor.
