NEW BUILD SUPPLEMENT v 2018’S NEWCOMERS... EW TAKES A LOOK AT FOUR HIGH-PROFILE VENUE OPENINGS FROM THE PAST 12 MONTHS ENGLISH AIR EXPANDING HORIZONS The Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre (FIECC) has become one of the pre-eminent events venues in the UK. FIECC’s new 20,000sqm exhibition and conference facility opened in Spring 2018. Included in the new venue is a 12,500sqm exhibition hall, which can be divided into three sections with movable partition walls. Purpose-built seminar rooms are close to the show fl oor, and the modular layout provides room for exhibitions to grow year-on- year. As the destination for the biennial Farnborough International Airshow, the site has steadily expanded its portfolio over the last decade. This new purpose- built facility will allow for more conferences, meetings, exhibitions and events to take place at Farnborough in northeast Hampshire, England. Events at the new venue include the Disabled Living Show (Kidz to Adultz) and Merchandise World. The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) has welcomed the recently completed expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). The MCEC completed the A$350m expansion earlier this year. It comprises 20,000sqm, with 9,000sqm of exhibition space as well as a theatre, multiple meeting rooms, a banquet room, a café and a bar. The expansion ensures that the MCEC remains Australia’s largest events space. EEAA CEO Joyce DiMascio comments: “The increased events space is anticipated to attract more events to Australia and improve our competitiveness. “Around the country state governments are all being asked to consider their venue requirements for the business events sector in the future. The latest investment by the Victorian Government will help the exhibitions and events industry enormously, and demonstrates business events as an econmoic driver.” OMAN OPENING The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre has opened a new convention centre. Part of the Madinat Al Irfan urban development in Muscat, it has been developed by the Oman Tourism Development Company. The centre focuses on events that will bring strategic and economic benefi t to the country and that are in line with Oman’s 2040 vision.
